As far as I know, this is only an issue on the Mac version of Skype. Here are the details of my system and Skype version:
OS: OS X 10.9.2
Skype: 6.15 (330)
Put simply, in certain group chats, I only want to be notified when certain key words are mentioned. This is a feature of Skype that has worked some of the time, but always unsets itself eventually (at least on my machine).
On the off chance that I’m doing something wrong, I will outline my process here and the results:
1. Be in a group chat with any combination of contacts and non-contacts
2. Right click on group name and go to Notification Settings
3. Click the radio button labeled, “Notify me only if these words are mentioned:”
4. Enter the following terms in the box, separated by a space:@dev @scott
5. Click OK
This is all fine. For a few seconds. Then it gets unset.
I go back in and the ‘Notify me’ radio button is again selected. All settings erased. It’s been this way for the last two weeks or so. Only now am I becoming annoyed by it.
Update: I just uninstalled Skype using AppCleaner, then downloaded the latest version from the web site 6.15 (330). I repeated the above steps to set my group notification settings, then immediately went back in and they were gone.
Update #2: A friend told me about the /alertson [terms], /alertsoff commands. I tried those and noticed I now get a Mac notification when the terms are mentioned. This is fine and expected behavior, but when I go into the Notification Settings box as I did earlier, I expect to see the same settings I had last time. Instead, it still reverts back to the default. So … still a problem, but at least I can use the commands.
